Frederick's Story

Private Frederick Hull was killed in Belguim in 1915. He died 26th May 1915 after a gas attack in the Battle of Belle warde. The effects of the gas were felt 20 miles behind the front line. His number was 2454. He is buried in the Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension, Nord, France, Plot 1 grave 114. He was married to Elizabeth Turnbull and had two daughters. There was difficulty about a widow's pension because he was born in Pennsylvannia. There was a cupboard in which there were three War Medals and a brass plaque relating to the death of Frederick. He was latterly a coal miner at Monkwearmouth Colliery, Sunderland. His death appears on the Colliery War Memorial.
