James's Story

My grandfather, James was called up for service on 8th May 1916 along with 3 of his brothers, Johnny, Robin and Wiliam. Johnny failed his army medical and was sent home to the family farm at Uplawmoor. All 3 brothers survived the war, although James received a shrapnel wound to the shoulder at one point. He was demobbed in December 1919 and returned to Uplawmoor where he married his sweetheart, Miss Annie Boyle Watson.
