Herbert's Story
Bert was born in Islington and had 4 brothers, 3 of whom also fought in The Great War.
He married Rose in 1911 and on the census earlier that year his occupation was described as "Bread Van Man".
He was a private in the army, serving firstly with the London Regiment and then with 6th Battalion, Somerset Light Infantry. He died from his wounds on 2 January 1918 and is buried at Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, near Ypres, Belgium.
His elder brother, Fred, died in July 1918.
Picture is of a postcard home "from Bert with best wishes".
