Rowland's Story

Rowland was killed at Passchendale 20/11/1917 aged 30. The picture is one of only two the family has of him. His daughter May, who we think was Two when the picture was taken and is still alive today 10/1/2009 at the age of 94, unfortunately has no real memories of her father.

Like many killed in that battle, Rowland has no grave but is remembered on the Tyne Cot memorial. His granddaughter Christine visited this in 2004, the first member of her family to go there, and like most people who visit these cemeteries, was impressed by the aura of peace and the wonderful way in which they are kept.

Picture shows Rowland with wife Harriet and daughter May
