Leslie's Story
Private Leslie Davison, 22nd DLI.
"died of war wounds"
Younger brother of Cpl. Robert William Davison.
Believed to have been a Seaham coal miner before the war.
Wounded at Hattencourt on the St. Quentin front, 25/03/18 but survived through the aid of his brother although this resulted in both brothers being captured in the incident.

In peacetime, his war experiences left their mark on Leslie: his health was never strong and he became a heavy drinker. Still, he married and he and his wife raised a son and a daughter.
In the mid 1930's Leslie died aged 40, his war wounds playing a part in his early demise. Tragically Leslie's son, named Robert after his uncle, was killed just a few years later at the age of 19: he died in France in his first action of the 1939-45 war.
