Eli's Story

Enlisted 1914, 1st Battalion Prince Alberts Own (Somerset Light Infantry).

1st July 1916 - over the top on the Somme.

3rd May 1917 at 04.05 hours A & B companies 1st Battalion go over the top in the 3rd assault on The Scarpe at Arras in Northern France. Acting Corporal Eli Jenkins was killed around 6 that evening and now lies with another of his family and the rest of his mates killed that day in the small cemetary of Roeux. Another corner of a foreign field that is forever England.
