John Thomas's Story

My father known to all as Tommy Boyd of Blyth Northumberland. wife of Jane Isabella. died 1963.

My father enlisted in 1914, joined the 11th Batt. 23 Div Northumberland Fusiliers. He wen't to France in 1915 fought in various battles with the regiment. Unfortunately, got severely gassed at the Battle of Passchendaele in October 1917 and was returned to England for treatment and eventual discharge from the army.I believe he went through a great deal of surgery before returning to "Blyth" and to his dear wife.

Tommy Boyd was well known thereafter as the Ambulance Driver for Blyth at "Thomas Knights Memorial Hospital" until we all moved to Coventry in 1941 (due to another war). He was a wonderful man.
