Adam's Story
My grandfather, (my father's father) Adam Landels, was a regular soldier in the Royal Scots. Before the outbreak of WW1 he was in the 1st Battalion in India. He transferred to the 2nd Battalion and went to France in August 1914 (aged 26) in the 8th Brigade, 3rd Division. He was awarded the Military Medal in 1916. He ended the war as a senior NCO and was called up again after the war for the various emeergencies and strikes in the 1920's.
Adam Landels, an 'Old Contemptible'
We know he fought near Arras and the Scarpe, an area I know well as I have French relations (on my mother's side) who stay there.
My grandfather died in 1960 when I was 7 but I remember him well. A great man, who loved his family and fought for his country.
On the picture: back row, last on right: Sgt A Landels. 16.4 1917, 'Boys of 8th Brigade' - possibly taken near Arras
