Frank Herbert's Story
As the Cambridge Chronicle reported Private Frank Herbert Maltby of the 5th battalion Yorkshire Regiment transferred from the Cambridge Territorials was killed by a shell on July19th 1917.
His company commander wrote to his parents "'I had noticed the quiet demeanour and intelligence of your son and we will miss him very much. He was killed whilst doing his duty at a critical period. He died the death of a true British soldier with his face to the enemy. His body will be interred in an English cemetery and a cross will be placed above the grave".
That cemetery is in Heninel a small village near Arras Pas de Calais France which I recently visited.
