Herbert's Story
At age 17 my grandfather joined the Leeds Pals Regiment and was posted to France. He was wounded at the Battle of the Somme and met my grandmother whilst recovering from his wounds - she was a nurse. My grandfather very rarely spoke of the war as the memories were so horrific. However, he would always observe two minutes silence on Remembrance Sunday to remember those that did not make it home.
