Bruce's Story

Bruce Huckle enlisted at Bedford in August 1914. He was single at the time but later married my paternal grandmother's sister, Bertha Bone. In 1916 he was transferred from the Lancers to the Machine Gun Corps and was engaged on the Somme. He later transferred back to the Lancers and, in May 1918, in a cavalry engagement had his horse shot from under him. In the fall his leg was crushed and he walked badly for the rest of his life.

On the picture Bruce Huckle in his Machine Gun Corps Uniform.
