Samuel's Story

Samuel enlisted in the Duke of Wellington Regiment , 8th April 1909 and was demobbed on 8th April 1914.

He enlisted in the 4th Bn Manchester Regiment 10th September 1914, and in October 1915 he was transferred to the 70th Machine Gun Corps (5749 Gunner S. Hutton) and served with the 8th Division B.E.F., La Boisselle, Albert, France. Was awarded the 1914-1915 Star, The British War Medal (1914-1920) and the British Victory Medal.

Was demobbed on 3rd May 1919 and transferred to the Reserve, and obtained a civilian job with Oldham Corporation. During WW2 he was a member of Oldham Civil Defence Corps (Decontamination and Rescue Squad) and an

A.R.P.
