John's Story

John Murphy wounded in the first days of WW1 on August 26th, died in December back in Silsoe.

John Murphy joined the Infantry at Neath Barracks in 1906 aged 17 but enlisted under the name of John Dalton, his grandmother's name. He is buried in St James Church, Silsoe. His stone states his age at death was 32 but he was born in 1886 making his age actually 28. Rest in peace.
