Soldier Record

Uncle Jack was recruited in early 1918, in Chesterfield (Derbyshire), and joined the 1st Battalion, King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment. He was sent to France during the spring/summer of 1918 and came up north of Cambrai in October. He was wounded during the Battle of the Selle and died of his wounds on 27th October 1918.

We think he died in a field hospital. He was buried in the Communal village cemetery in Villers-en-Cauchies along with 22 other British soldiers, from various other regiments.

We attended the Remembrance Service this year for the 90th anniversary at Villers-en-Cauchies and placed poppy crosses on all the graves of the British soldiers interred there.
