Frank's Story

My grandfather Frank was a postman before the war. He was injured in the Battle of Cambrai and his leg was amputated. After the fitting of an artificial limb he became a steel worker in the City of Sheffield. He made the steel Sydney Harbour Bridge. Laid off for long periods in the depression, his wife remarked that their war pension saved them from hunger. He had two children, Connie (my mother) and Frank who died in his teens.
