Matthew's Story
Matthew Quinn served as a private with the 2nd Btn South Lancashire Regiment and was killed in action at the Battle of La Bassee, south west of Lille on 24th October 1914. He was 22 years old.
He was the son of Thomas and Mary Quinn and had four brothers. Younger brother William was also killed in WW1 the following year. He has no known grave and is commemorated at Le Touret Memorial. As far as I am aware both brothers still lived at the family home in Castle Avenue, Portadown.
Matthew was a weaver prior to enlisting.
I am Matthew & William's great grand niece.
