Arthur William's Story

My uncle Arthur was a very quiet gentleman. He worked on the land for a local estate at Freeford.

He did not speak about the War. I think he just wanted to get back to a normal life. His first day in the War his best friend was blown up next to him. I believe he did his training with the North Staffordshire Regiment but he served in the 1st Battalion of the Sherwood Foresters from 17.6.1918. I was eight when he died and I am very proud of him
