Charles Edward Ernest's Story

My grandfather was only 16 when he joined went to France in summer of 1918 received a gun shot wound to the left hand on 1 Sept 1918 at St Quinten and then was sent home thank god.

When I was a child he told me he got shot in the hand in the war - that was in the 1960s I have only just found out that it was true through the service records.

I only wish I knew how to get hold of his medals as they are lost.

What a man and I am so proud of him willing to fight for his country at 16!
