Reginald Frank Edgar's Story
I only vaguely remember one occasion that I met my grandad when I was 5. He passed away when I was 6 in 1978. My uncle created a family tree dating back to 1630. This is where I discovered my Grandad served in the Royal Warwickshire Regiment. He saw action in the Somme. My other grandfather from my mothers side worked in the dock yard in Portsmouth and was killed in an air raid shelter in Somerstown not far from the dock yard in WWII. This left my mother orphaned as her mother had died 4 years earlier of pneumonia in Eastbourne. My mother was badly abused as a foster child and eventually got adopted by a wonderful family in Tunbridge Wells where she meet my dad Reginald's son Alan William. They went on to have 10 children and now have 22 grand children. It makes me happy to think that something amazing eventually came out of these two horrific wars that tore this family apart. My dad served in the navy for 22 years and loved serving his queen and country. I am very proud of them all.
