John Joseph's Story

My Paternal Grandfather. A merchant seaman separated from wife and son. Enlisted in Cardiff in the Welch Regiment in early 1915. Went to France date unknown killed in Mametz Wood Somme Front on 12 th July 1916 age shown at death 48, surely this was old for a front line infantryman. His mother who was listed as next of kin Mary Ellen Bowers lived in Stockport. Would love to know how and when he went to France in what batalion he served and how he was killed.
