Alfred Henry's Story

Alfred Henry Pellow( known as Harry) was born early in 1897 at Acton, Middlesex. He was the fifth child for William Rowe (of Kenwyn, Truro, Cornwall) and Alice Maud (formerly Shepherd of Kensington, London.)

Harry was attested in February 1915 to the Middlesex Regiment. After a period of training he was drafted to the Western Front where he took a prominent part in many notable engagements, and was wounded. Harry was killed in action on 11th October 1917 at the third Battle of Ypres.

His Army papers state that he was awarded the Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal.

Harry's two older sisters, Florence Elizabeth and Alice Maud, were each noted a Special War Worker. They were recognized for their valuable contribution to the war effort while working for Napier's Aircraft Works at Acton Vale.
