Ernest's Story
Ernest Codling, a warehouseman, enlisted with the 4th Bn of the Lincolnshire Regiment in December 1914. He was the son of Mr and Mrs J Codling, who by the time of his death on June 8, 1917 had moved to Bourne. He was killed in action, serving with the 6th Bn of the Lincolnshire Regiment and is buried at Messines Ridge British Cemetery, just a few miles away from his brother Albert who was killed near Ypres in May 1915.
