John's Story
John Rowles. A Gunner with the Garrison Artillery prior to WW1, at the outbreak of the war was serving in Hong Kong. We know he corresponded with his future wife and her sister using the Trans Siberian Railway and have letters to prove it.
We know he was awarded the 1914/5 Star so was recalled to serve in France/Belgian in that time. We know he married in June 1917 two brothers marrying two sisters Margaret and Sophia to Ned(edward?) We have a picture of the 2 brothers in Army uniform dated 191?
We also know from letters that Nedwas badly wounded in the lungs and was visited by his wife and sisterinlaw in Rouen the main British Hospital. Both brothers survived the war. Unfortunately can't ascertain Neds cap badge certainly not the Fleur de Lys of the Manchester Regiment. Would love to locate their war records.
