William's Story

My mother told me many stories about her family. She mentioned that 2 of her mother's brothers were killed in the 1 WW. she didn't know their names. My great grandparents had 3 sons and 5 daughters. The eldest son George and the youngest William were both killed in France. The middle son Robert was seriously injured in 1918. The Red Cross arranged for my gt.grandparents to visit him. He had a leg amputated and was discharged from the Machine Gun Corps of the Durham Light Infantry. My grandfather Joseph Geldert served in Mesopotamia my mother was a baby when he left. We were very lucky he came back to the family.
