Albert's Story

My grandfather was one of the lucky ones to be able to return to his family after the Great War. I know little of his war apart from a tale that he was on a train in Turkey looking after the horses when the train was hit. Sadly, his records are not at Kew, so no doubt part of the burnt offerings but I do believe the Herts Yeomanry did serve in Gallipoli so perhaps the tale is correct. Like many servicemen returning home, he very rarely mentioned his experiences during this time. Perhaps the War Diaries might shed some light when I get a chance to research further.
