Samuel's Story
This is my husband's father. I know nothing of his battles etc, except that my husband's mother, May Packwood kept photos and letters she received, but none from him. I have many family and reg. photos but am not clever enough to post them. some taken in France. Her sweetheart was George Hubert Benton who died in 1915.I posted his details but they are not added yet.Medals she had were stolen in 2002.
One of the pals brought back a trench map heavily detailed, clean except for parts of the Messines Ridge. It may have been taken by a German Officer because a German name is crossed out on top. It shows British and enemy trenches and location of stabling of Lancashire's horses. Samuel Thompson was in the infantry. Why we have the map is a mystery.
