Ira's Story
Ira Matthews, who was my Geat Uncle, was born in Bedwas Mon. and worked as a collier until he joined the South Wales Borderers. He was transfered to the Welch Reg. just before he was killed in action on the 8th October 1918 aged 19. He is buried along with 73 other Welsh soldiers in the Bois-Des-Angles British Cemetery near Villers Outreaux, France.
Ira was the son of William and Hannah C. Matthews of Rhymney Villa, Pengam, Mon.
