George Alexander's Story
Born in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, George joined the Royal Flying Corps as a pilot in the UK. As far as is known from the military records, he flew a Sopwith Pup and his son recalls the story that he was shot down in battle but escaped alive, with a scar on his chin as a memento! His field of operations is not known. His war records state that he was hospitalised in London in August 1918, after which he was moved to ground duty, before leaving the airforce in August 1919. Not much else is known.
