Wilfred's Story

My grandad Wilfred Dean who I will never forget.

I did not know my grandad but have found out after tracing my family tree that he served with the Queens Royal East Surrey Regiment. I am led to believe that like so many men he lied about his age to sign up. I have been told that her served in 'Ypres' and was discharged from the army with 'mustard gas poisoning' toward the end of the war.

It may sound funny but at 40 years of age this was the first year that I have ever felt proud of what my grandad and many others did for us all to the point of tears.
