William Henry's Story

I never knew William, who was my great-grandfather, but having looked at his army records, I have learnt that he was a great patriot who joined up almost immediately that World War I broke out, at the relatively advanced age of 31. He rose from the rank of private to that of CSM of his regiment - testament to his ability but also, sadly, of the toll that the war took on his comrades. His son, another William and my grandfather, was also a patriot and when World War II broke out; he too joined up immediately.

He was a great patriot who joined up almost immediately that World War I broke out.

I am proud of my forebears, who fought to ensure my freedom. I am also proud of those they left behind during their service. They did their bit for the war effort and ensured that both men came home to a loving family.
