John's Story
My great uncle, Pte John MacIver, was a piper fighting with the 1/7th Cameronians. He died in Palestine on 13th November 1917 and is buried in Gaza War Cemetery. He did not need to join up as he was a police officer in Glasgow but appears to have done so after his brother, William, was drowned at Gallipoli when his ship was torpedoed in May 1915.
