John George's Story
My uncle John George Wallace died in France on 28 August 1918 age 18 He was my Father's oldest brother.
He had been wounded and was in a field hospital which was blown up killing all the occupants. He has no known grave but is listed on the War memorial at Vis-en-Artois. The only message we still have from him is a postcard sent from Thetford camp in May 1918 after he enlisted describing the horrors of the camp- rats, mud etc. but he has written at the bottom " this is not all true".
