Thomas's Story

Thomas Shepeard was my grandfather, at the time of his death I would have been 11 years old, I can remember my grandfather being very ill when I was a very young child, he had served in the first world war and had been mustard gassed somewhere in either Belgiam or France. As a result he was ivalided home to England. His lungs were almost completeley destroyed by the gas, so much so that he was unable to walk unaided, and only then for a very short distance. we lived in a little terraced house in Handbridge Chester, the house was directly opposite a Bus Stop, and in the summer we used to carry him across to the bus stop, along with a chair, where he would sit for most of the day chatting as best he could, to freinds and neighbours getting on and off the busses. I have no information at all as to his Army Service Record, where he fought, or how and where he was injured, and would love to find out further information about his war record.
