William's Story
Killed at Festubert on 16th May 1915.
Served in the Boar War before being invalided home with enteric fever.
Worked as a decorater and had 4 children, the youngest of whom (my mother) he had never seen as she was born after he joined up. Died not long after arriving in France in March 1915 and is commemorated on the memorial at Le Touret.
My mother told the story that he led his men over the top and was hit by a shell, his body was never found.
His wife was left to bring up 4 children alone and in very poor circumstances.
I would really like to find out some more detail about his life and army career.
