Arthur Robert's Story

This is my Grandad, Wounded in the Battle of the Somme. Right Femur. He could not walk unaided, his right leg was in a calliper his shoe was built up, through his injury this leg was shorter than the left one. He never complained about his lot. I loved him very much. He was a happy go lucky man very generous always giving me a 3d bit. He liked a drink with what he must of gone through no one could blame him. He never talked about the war. I wish I could talk to him now.He had his bed in the living room as he could not climb anystairs. He used to keep chickens for the eggs. He actually joined the Notts & Derbyshire regiment, which became part of the Sherwood Foresters. He was in a convalensent home for a time. Then he met my Nan and they got married.
