These are exerts from my Fathers Dairies, he joined the RGA before the First World War, he was stationed at various parts of the south of England, before going on a tour of Malta in January 1914. He arrived in France 9.3.1916, at Boulonge here he marched 16 ,14, 17 miles a day and escorted Guns to Liencourt. On the 31.3.1916. walked to St Catherine were they got the guns into action and received their first shower of "Pip sqeeks and whis bangs" 7.5.16 under heavy shell fire, in trenches. "Bombarded part of Vimy Ridge on 16.5.1916, firing 40 rounds. 4.6.16 had a scrap with German artillery on sunday night. Had a fairly hot time, 4 shells burst between our guns . no casualties." There is a list of all the Battles he was in, l don't think l have spaces to record them, but will try, he calls them "Position in Action FRANCE", ARRIS, ST CATHERINES , ALBERT 1.7.16 SOMME BATTLE, La Briedle, and there are other battles around the Somme, then back at ARRAS Battle good friday 1917, then he was captured and escaped 12 hours after knocking out jerry by hitting him on the head with a boot. My father use to tell us these stories when we were young, there was also drawings of positions of the guns, fine or windy , and how much pay they got a day. I don't know if this is the sort of thing you want in Remembrance, but l'm proud of my father, and his service in the ww1, just two more entres, one that reads "Conentisli Bray only one gun left in action Waucout, Rifles issued last stand HAIGS order must save Calias," the last entry "Its is gratifing to be able to record the success that has attended the use of these splendid...." thats where it stops.
