Robert's Story

Robert Sinclair was born in 1887 the son of Walter Sinclair. He married Sarah Sullivan on 27th August 1911 at Holy Trinity Church, Hoxton.

By the outbreak of war on 4th August 1914 the couple had three children the youngest born on the 11th July 1914. At this time Robert was working as a Contractor's carman. Weeks later he enlisted and on 22nd September embarked for France where he served as L/Cpl T/23484 with the Army Service Corps based at the Lahore Reserve Park.

On 20th April 1916 he was transferred into the 1st Battalion Middlesex Regiment. Robert was killed in Flanders during the battle of the Menin Road Ridge - he has no grave but is commemorated on the Memorial Wall at the Tyne Cot Cemetery.

He left a widow and three young children, my father being the eldest at nearly 6 years old.
