Charles E's Story
My great uncle Charlie volunteered in August 1914 and in June 1915 he was sent to Gallipoli. He saw action at the landing at Suvia Bay and in the heavy fighting that followed. After the evacuation of the Peninsula he was drafted to Mesopotamia and there took part in several of the battles which led to the capture of Baghdad.
From Mesopotamia he went to Egypt and then to India and on the North West Frontier was engaged in the Afghan risings. He was demobilised in November 1919 having reached the rank of Sergeant. He served in the Worcestershire Regiment and the Machine Gun Corps.
