John's Story
Corporal John Gordon died in the last year of the war
Our family do not have a great deal of information relating to my great-grandfather and his experiences during the First World War. We know that he served in the 16th Battalion of the Highland Light Infantry and that he is buried in New Irish Farm Cemetery near Ypres. What is clear, however, is that his death had a shattering effect upon the family. He left behind a widow and three children, including my grandad, who had to go out to work at a young age and had to forgo a bursary to the prestigious Allan Glen's School. My great-grandfather's cheery disposition passed down to his son, who went on to serve his country in WW2 on the aircraft carrier, HMS Indomitable. I would be delighted to know if anyone can identify his comrades and perhaps supply additional information about their war experiences.
