Sidney Herbert's Story
Sidney was my grandfather who I never met. he was awarded the Military medal for bravery in the field, twice. The first occasion was in 1918 during operations N.W of Bapaume. The second occasion is not dated.
He was recommended for the DCM on the second occasion, but this was downgraded to the bar to his military medal.
No one in the family knew of these awards until the death of my Father recently, when the medals came to light.

Sidney survived WW1, but was killed by a flying bomb in WW2 on his birthday.
