Robert's Story

He had a strong devotion to cause and country.

Ashton Reporter December 9th 1916 - DUKINFIELD DRUMMER'S DEATH - He had been missing since July 7th. Official notification has been received by Mr and Mrs Daniel Dillon, of 73 Pickford Lane, Dukinfield, of the death in action in France of their son, Drummer Robert Dillon. Drummer Dillon had been reported missing since July 7th this year. Numerous inquires had been made since that date, but this official message __?__ no doubt whatsoever. Drummer Dillon joined the 10th Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers on August 13th 1914, and went to France in July, 1915. He had seen several engagements. He was 21 years of age, and was formerly employed by the Newton Moor Spinning Company. A member of the Foundry-street Primitive Methodist Sunday School, his name is on the roll of honour there. His parents have received several letters of condolence from his officers, and all speak in similar vein of the high character of the deceased soldier and his strong devotion to cause and country. His many acquaintances in the town deeply deplore the sacrifice. Drummer Dillon has two brothers serving the Country. A memorial service was held at the Foundry-street Primitive Methodist Chapel on Sunday inst.
