Jack's Story

He was married with 2 young children when he joined the Royal Field Artillery as a Driver, then later a Bombardier. He survived being gassed at the Battle of the Somme because a friend went back for him. He subsequently received the Silver War Badge on being discharged and lived to reach his 80th birthday. His younger brother Alf was a Private in the 9th Battalion of the Royal Warwickshire Regiment. He was killed at Gallipoli, aged only 15.
