William's Story
He also suffered from a badly injured left shoulder and mustard gas poisoning.
I remember his right hand, which was disfigured - three fingers missing. He was severely injured in the battle of Passchendaele in 1917 and was sent back to Blighty where he convalesced at Clandon Park, Guildford. He also suffered from a badly injured left shoulder and mustard gas poisoning. He must have been a character as he pretended to be an Australian as they received better treatment. Unfortunately, I didn't have much contact with him as a boy and he died when I was 25, so this is all I know.
