Thomas's Story
Unfortunately I never met any of my Grandparents on my fathers side. My Father tells me that Thomas was in the war of Mons in Belgium. He was a member of the Royal Army Medical Corps. He was very active in the war of Mons and was happy to be called the "Old Contemptable". This was a very important battle that held the advancing German army just long enough for many other soldiers to retreat to safer to safer ground. The Enfield rifle out gunned the German Army. The nick name of the "Old Contemptables" was given by a German General.
On the photghraph my Grandfather, Thomas (Tommy) Tracey and his wife, Christina. Date unknown.
Very proud of this photo and his active involvement is such a terrifying war which he managed to live through.

Kaiser Wilhelm's 'Order of the Day' on August 19, 1914 was translated into English as "my soldiers to exterminate first the treacherous English.
