Frederick's Story
He was wounded in France by several fragments of hostile shell.
Lance Corporal Frederick James Pearson was 1.9m (6.2ft), with fair hair and blue eyes. According to the Certificate for Wounds and Hurts, he was wounded in France on 27 September 1918 by several fragments of hostile shell. He was my mother's father with whom we lived in Billingham-on-Tees until around 1950. He was known locally as Lord Jim, presumably because he was quite tall and walked very upright. I had to stretch up to hold his hand.
