Private Richard's Story
Doreen GrimshawâÂÂs grandfather, Private Richard Lancaster of the 2nd Battalion The Lancashire Fusiliers, was killed on 10 November 1914 during the First Battle of Ypres. His body was not recovered. DoreenâÂÂs father was only four years old at the time and had no real recollections of him to pass on to her. Over 91 years later, on Good Friday 2006, Doreen received the news that Private LancasterâÂÂs remains had been found and identified. On 4 July 2007, she was present when Private Lancaster was buried with full military honours at Prowse Point Cemetery, Belgium.
