George saved a friends life, in Loos France, after Charlie Thompson was shot in both legs and crippled. George carried him to safety and later found out through letters that Charlie had named his son George Loos Thompson as a thankyou and tribute to Georges bravery. There are letters confirming all this in Australia were his direct family are now living. George went on to be gassed in France and spent alot of time in and out of various hospitals before ending up in 1921 in Birkenhead hospital (now called St Catherines) and in a bad way. He "fell" from 30ft out of the hospital window and broke his back and later died. Was he delerious or had enough? The newspaper report at the time seems to indicate delerium. He left a wife and young family and is buried in Flaybrick Cemetary in a war grave.
