John (Jackie)'s Story
Uncle Jackie left his home town of Stirling like many young men in the Great War. He served with the Royal Field Artillery on the Western Front, little is known of his service record, and family memerobilia is very limited. However we are in receipt of his personal diary during his service on the front coupled with several campaign medals.
The family were aware where my Great Uncle was interred after his death. His sister, my Great Aunt, passed on paperwork coupled with personal knowledge to my Dad. My Dad in 2002 made a pilgrimage to the Belgian/French border to Godewaersvelde British Cemetary where my Great Uncle is interred.
After the pilgrimage we attempted to learn more about my Great Uncle through the public records office, in Kew Gardens. Sadly most of my Great Uncle's records had been destroyed, possibly in the Second World War blitz. At this point our story ends.
