Soldier Record

Frederick originated from the small hamlet of Midley on the Romney marsh in Kent where his father was a shepherd. At the time of enlistment Frederick his Father, mother brothers and sisters lived at 1 York cottages, Sandhills Sholden near Deal Kent. His family moved to Littlebourne near Canterbury Kent whilst he was away on the front line and this is where they where when the telegram arrived informing them of his death. Frederick served in the 131st heavy battery and died from wounds incured on the 3rd of August 1917 aged 24. His mother had sadly died earlier in the year but his brother Samuel also a serving soldier with the Buffs (East Kent regiment) survived the war and came home. Frederick is buried in the Mendinghem military cemetery in Belgium.
