Frank Vincent Paine, my Father's brother, was born in 1899 in Staines, Middlesex and before enlisting was employed as a porter at Staines Great Western Railway Station. According to a newspaper report he enlisted in 8th Battalion Royal Fusiliers in October 1914 and went to the front in March 1916. He was killed on Friday 7th July 1916 at the Battle of the Somme and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial. In the photograph he is wearing the uniform of the Church Lad's Brigade.
